Smith's Brownie S
PedigreeSmith's Brownie S
Second, and to further complicate things, the Smith brothers bred the hound "Smith's Major D" to some of their Beagles to produce the type of hunter they felt they needed. "Major" being the result of the "Old Deck" X "Dolly M" breeding. Pictured on the following page is "Smith's Brownie S", she was small, sniped nosed, predominately "red" in color and light-boned. "Brownie S" was out of "Major's" daughter "Smith's Spotty N" (Smith's Major D ex Nellie). "Nellie" was what Smith called an "Old English Beagle" (Oliver ex Beulah Girl). "Brownie S's" sire was the Beagle "Scott's Jack" (Sailor Boy ex Gipsy Queen). "Brownie S" is the great grand dam of the brothers "Smith's Red Pathfinder" and "Ch. Smith's Red Powder" (Smith's Red Bear Tongue ex Walhampton Passion). Either of these studs can be found behind almost all lines of today's American Basset Hound.
