Whelped on 06/04/1940 at Marjorie "Cherrie" Osborne-Cohen's Glamis (pronounced "Glamz") Kennels in North Hollywood California.

"He went in to the water as 'Pal' and came out of the water as "Lassie!" commented Fred M. Wilcox, film director of "Lassie Come Home", about the performance of the first Weatherwax trained collie for the silver-screen movies. Lassie l (aka "Pal") starred with young dame Elizabeth Rosemond Taylor and young master Roddy McDowall in "Lassie Come Home."

With a total of seven silver-screen movies over his career, he became THE HIGHEST PAID ANIMAL ACTOR for MGM.

In 1954, the first two pilot episodes of "Lassie" for television began with young master Tommy Rettig starring as " Jeff Miller" and featured Lassie l ("Pal" ) starring as "Lassie". Then, due to advanced age, Lassie l was replaced by Lassie ll (aka Lassie Jr.); and, the title of the television show was changed to "Jeff's Collie". During filming, Tommy Rettig would refer to Lassie l ("Pal") as "The Old Man" because while filming with Lassie ll (Lassie Jr.) playing the lead role as cued by Rudd Weatherwax, Lassie l ("Pal") would get up from his bed and rehearse the scenes backstage with no instruction .

Pal did have four known offspring (all missing Pal's famous white markings). One grandson called "Laddie" was to be Pal's successor. Sadly, this pup succumbed to distemper leaving none to continue the Lassie I ("Pal") bloodline.
On June 18th, 1958, at the age of eighteen, Lassie l ("Pal") quietly passed away, leaving Rudd Weatherwax heart-broken.

Pal was the inspiration for the Weatherwax family to 'go on with the show' by using Lassie ll (aka Lassie Jr. from Ted Kattel's Borco Kennel) as the founding sire of the father/son line of descent for the now famous AKC registered Weatherwax Lassie Collies.
