About the Border Collie

The Border Collie originated in the Anglo-Scottish border region of England and Scotland in the late 19th century. The breed was developed as a herding dog and was used by farmers to control and manage their flocks of sheep. The Border Collie was known for its high level of intelligence, trainability, and intense work ethic, which made it an indispensable part of life on the farm.

Over time, the Border Collie became recognized as a versatile and intelligent breed, and its popularity spread beyond the border region to other parts of England and Scotland. In the early 20th century, the breed was introduced to the United States, where it quickly gained popularity as a herding dog and as a companion animal. Today, the Border Collie is one of the most highly prized herding breeds in the world, and is also widely used as a companion animal, obedience competitor, and agility competitor. The breed is known for its high level of energy, enthusiasm, and need for regular exercise and mental stimulation, making it an ideal choice for active families and individuals. Despite its high energy and exercise needs, the Border Collie is an intelligent, loyal, and affectionate breed that makes a wonderful companion for the right family.

The Most Intelligent Dog Breed

Widely considered to be the most intelligent dog breed, Border Collies are working dogs originally bred for herding sheep in Scotland back in the late 1800's. Border Collies come in a variety of beautiful coat colors and patterns including bi-colored and tri-colored blue merle, black and white and a number of solid colors as well. Border Collies are known for being energetic yet obedient and require a considerable amount of physical exercise and mental stimulation on a daily basis. While they've long been known for being a fantastic working breed, Border Collies are becoming an increasingly popular companion and competition dog as well.
